Bring a friend!

Each year our community adopts a holiday family to help during the winter season. This year we connected with our family through a new program hosted by Springfield Skeptics that finds families in the community who would be uncomfortable going to most churches and asking for assistance because of their religious ideology. I asked the organizers to give us the family from their program that had the most need. We are giving a Christmas (Solstice? Hanukkah? Yule? Festivus?) to a single mom who has two children. She had a job but was recently laid off and hasn’t been able to find new employment. You can find the gift tags on the tree this coming Sunday. Please return the presents (in gift bags, not wrapped!) and tags by December 17th. If anyone has any questions or would like to know more about the individual needs of the family they can contact me! – Amber

Check the First UU Calendar for the dates and times of scheduled events.

“The Advent of Social Justice”
by Rev. Bill Kennedy

Bill’s reflection for us:
May we remember the reformers who have gone before us.
May we honor their lives.
May their vision for social order come on earth.
May we be satisfied with daily bread.
May we forgive ourselves the evil we do,
even as we forgive the evil of others.
May we resist the lure of temptation.
May we confront evil by any power.

Religious Education Classes

Last Sunday . . .

All of the children’s classes explored The Challenge of Body. The Chalice Children read a book about the human body and made messy handprint art. The older kids played a revised Simon Says where being able to say no, even to Simon, was introduced.  Timmy M., Alicia M., and Adam F.  were all downstairs helping.

Nursery care is available between 10:00 am and 12:15 pm on Sundays.

A casual conversation to get acquainted with other newcomers to UUism and First UU of Springfield.

Share the Plate

Last week we raised $141 for our Adopt a Family holiday program, benefiting a high-needs family in our local community.

Thanks to all who have donated to the Eden Animal Haven collection bin in the church so far! Bill and Leslie took your contributions home after Sunday’s service and the cats are already putting them to good use.

The bin awaits any further donations. Please note that you can also donate a check (see the EAH website or Facebook page for address information) or donate items through the online wish lists.

Thanks so much for your support of this wonderful organization!
